I wish you could have seen my view tonight. The sky was this incredible teal color as night was falling. Stunning!
Unfortunately, today is the dreaded 10 day. Today is a horrible day. I have been sitting here for about 30 minutes trying to figure out if I could sit up long enough to write today’s post. I find if I hold my head to the side – it’s just too heavy today to hold straight up - and sit in a slightly reclining position (I don’t have a couch yet – just a sports chair and one of those fold-able wooden television tables ) I think I can do it.
Unfortunately, yesterday, my day got away from me. First Dekker – the black pug – had to go to the vet.
His illness has flared up so bad that he would run away when I tried to pet him. His skin was so inflamed and itchy, he just couldn’t stand being touched. The vet thoroughly checked him out, took lots of blood and put him on a new round of antibiotics, prednisone and anti-histamine medication. Two-Hundred and Ten dollars later and we were headed home! He is now resting and sleeping the day away. Hopefully in a couple of days he will start feeling better.
The unexpected trip tired me a little so I rested, but what came next just totally sucked the life right out of me. Interestingly, stress seems to do that with these illnesses.
I received news that my father has a mass ‘in’ the lower part of his lung, a growth that is growing on top of it – my mom called it a film – and a hole next to the mass, in his lung as well. He is having problems breathing and swallowing and his blood pressure has become erratic. Not the kind of news you want to get.
I handled the news really well actually, but unfortunately my body did not. I have learned through the years that stress is a major energy stealer. It will come in and take everything in a moment’s notice. And it did not let me down today.
This is a really bad crash. Sore throat, raspy voice that comes and goes, itchy throat, cough, ringing in my ears – I hate that – headache, pain, swollen and painful lymph nodes in my neck and under arms, fuzziness, and malaise. Also, my skin hurts. It’s like all the nerves are inflamed and the thought of someone touching my skin, just makes me cringe.
I am so exhausted it sort of feels like someone turned my body inside out. A commenter on another blog described the exhaustive fatigue like you were being pinned down and you might not be able to get back up. I agree. That is a good way to describe it. Even breathing is an effort today.
Despite my bad day, I thought I would leave you with a funny quote, a pick-me-up, if you will. So…here goes!
You know it’s a bad day when you put your bra on backwards and it fits better!

Now, if I can just get enough energy to get out of this chair and crawl back into bed….
Determined to continue forward.

(((hugs))) Dominique. Wow.what.a.day. When I read your posts, descriptions, things that affect you…you are totally and exactly describing me. I so hear you about stress being an energy stealer. Oh…and the sore throat and ringing in my ears, the headache, pain, swollen and painful lymph nodes in my neck and under arms, fuzziness, and malaise…I get that too and sooo know what you are talking about. The exhaustion and fatigue are something else too. For me…the fatigue feels the same as it dos when being put under for an operation…it just can’t be fought.
Sorry to hear about your dad. You’re right…not the news one wants to receive.
Hope you are able to get some rest. One day at a time. Thinking about you.
Thanks Linda! Glad to have you along for the journey!
Hi Dominique,
I totally relate to the stress causing a crash problem. It is gut wrenching news you have just received and would hit anyone hard, let alone a PWC. I think something has short circuited in the way we deal with emotion chemically. Maybe overuse? Anyway, I hope it passes soon and that your poor pug feels better too.
Loved the funny quote by the way.
.-= Jo´s last blog ..Oh crap. =-.
Jo – I hope more for my cute little guy than me! LOL Yes, we are both working on getting better today.
Sorry to hear you are so badly crashed. You are so right about stress. It affects me the same way. Also, the trip to the vet and worrying about your dog could also have contributed. I’m sorry to hear about your dad. My parents are both healthy and relatively young, but we’ve dealt with a lot with my husband’s parents’ health the past few years, and I know how difficult it is. I hope things work out well for your dad. Rest as best as you can today, and take care of yourself. I’m thinking of you…
Sue
P.S. You just have to get a couch! That’s my “base of operations” when I feel bad.
.-= Sue Jackson´s last blog ..Stuck in Wet Cement =-.
Sue – You are right I do need to get a couch. I gave mine to my daughter when I moved back because she needed it more than me with a new little girl. Also, I down-sized so it wouldn’t fit. I may have to break down and get one but I have putting it on the back burner because my daughter is getting married in August and I am paying for the reception.
Despite that, I think you are right. I need to get a big, comfortable sectional where I can eat, sleep and work!
Every time I have a cup of PG Tips now, I think of you!
Sorry to hear that you have had such a bad day. I recommend chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.
.-= LD Jackson´s last blog ..Scott Brown and the conservatives =-.
Larry – You are such a great guy! You should play the romantic lead in movies because you would be great at it. You are always doing things to make some one’s day a little better! Chocolate does sound good.
Oh my gosh you had my laughin out loud with the bra quote. Making us laugh after such hard news and feeling so crumby…thank you.
I’m sorry to hear about all that your dad is experiencing and yes, stress, especially big stress, drains the little bit of what still works right out of our cells. Pinned down that says it well…also sometimes I think to myself, this is like being alive in a dead body.
I hope there is good medical help for your dad. Also, hoping you can add a sofa soon. With CFIDS sofa equals sanctuary (I learned this from Renee who inspired me to invest in a cozy one where I spend most of my daytimes).
Congrats to you on becoming a Grandma too. Love the name Alyssa!
Take good care and hope your strength and comfort level bump up soon, Kerry
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..My first “Grandma” post… =-.
Kerry – Oh! The dead body line just gave me chills! I’m glad you like the bra joke. You’re the only one so far that has commented!
Renee appears to me a very wise soul. And yes, I totally agree. Cozy, soft, and not too hard. You have to be able to lay there for a really long time!
Kerry – you are a love! I am so glad we have discovered each other’s blogs! New friends are always a blessing!
