"The Eagle Has Crashed"

Book Review: The Eagle Has Crashed by Ted Lacksonen

I recently had a friend ask me to read his new book, The Eagle Has Crashed, and I quickly said yes!  Ted has been someone who has been helping me to think outside the box when it comes to the plight of America and politics in general.  I respect his opinion deeply and was excited and honored to...

Executive decisions

I never knew I could get exhausted just looking at wedding gowns over the internet while on the phone with my daughter!  Phew!  I spent about 1 1/2 hours looking through dozens of ‘mother’s’ dresses and my daughter and I narrowed down the list to six that I need to go and try on in the next few months.  I will be wearing the color ‘truffle’ for my daughter’s wedding in August!

I also got to see the dresses the bridesmaids will be wearing as well as the dress my grand-daughter will be wearing.  This is going to be a beautifully colored wedding.  Rachael (my daughter) has chosen watermelon, champagne and black as her colors.  It is amazing how nice the colors look together.  With 12 people in her wedding party, the photos should be amazing!  So I have much work….errr….less eating to do!  ha ha!

As a result of the upcoming wedding, I have decided to give up coke.  I know.  I should not be drinking it to begin with.  But I am so addicted to it.  Well…I was.  One of the benefits of the detox that I just finished is I no longer like the taste of coke.  It just tastes nasty.  So I have now replaced coke with reverse-osmosis water and Cali tea, which is an Asian detox tea that naturally and gently cleans the body of toxins and chemicals.  I just drink one glass a day and the rest of my beverages are water, herbal tea and my favorite, of course, PG Tips.  :-)

I need to lose 60-70 pounds and letting go of the coke should be a good start to my getting back to a healthy weight level.  For the wedding, I will just lose what I can and that will be good enough for now.

Even beyond the weight loss, however, I noticed during the detox that I no longer was waking up coughing, raspy voiced or with a sore throat in the mornings.  I came to the realization is was the coke.  I have also noticed that the swelling in my feat and under my knees has gone down quite a bit.  So for health reasons, giving up coke this year was one of my first executive decision!  LOL!   :-)

I made a second executive decision for this year as well.  I have really struggled against buying ‘aids’ that make my life easier for obvious reasons, but this year I decided I would purchase anything that I felt would be of a major benefit.  So…last week I purchased a laptop table as I have gotten to where sitting the laptop on my lap hurts and I can’t hold it up very long without my legs getting tired, restless, or numb.  So it was time to try something new.

I have now been using the laptop table for a week and I really like it.  I’m actually thinking maybe I should design one for CFIDS/FMS/ME suffers because whoever designed the one I purchased  didn’t think it all the way through.  The drawer to store things like pens and pencils opens backwards so it makes it hard to use.  There isn’t enough room to reposition my legs underneath the table when I need to.  The biggest problem, though, is where you place the laptop.  You can raise your laptop almost to a 90 degree angle and you have 7 different levels in between.   That is very nice.  What they didn’t think through is the placement of the laptop.  It is on the left side of the table while you sit in the middle of the table.  Thus, when you are typing your are sitting forward, but typing slightly to the left.  Not a great position.  I have found a way around it but still…  I think I could create a much more ‘user-friendly’ laptop table for us all.

I am looking at making a few other purchases in the months ahead such as a steam mop, air purifier for the front of my apartment (I have one in my bedroom already) and perhaps even hiring a maid to come in every two weeks.

Ultimately I have decided I will do whatever I need to reduce my energy output so I have more energy to do the things I want.  If I have to set aside my pride to do so, than so be it.  I’m okay with that.

Determined to continue forward,

Happy Valentines Day Dominique, First, I loved the image of you and your daughter “wedding bonding and planning” over the phone. Her colors sound beautiful and original. The color you will be wearing “truffle” is that a rich chocolately brown?

Kudos, kudos and more kudos on all that you’re doing for yourself to save energy and be at your highest function. Isn’t it amazing what a motivator a wedding is. Congrats on kicking the cola habit. My son got married in June, and for a year and a half there was so many exciting things to do–we made our planning and the wedding as “CFS friendly” as possible. I ended up fitting into a cute dress, which felt so good…and the wedding was beyond our expectations…I was just so happy to be there and functioning!

I wish you much fun planning this special time with your daughter Dominique. Hope you keep us updated as you get ready for the big day and that you will post a picture of you in the “truffle” dress after the big day. Love, Kerry

Ohhh….your daughter’s colours sound beautiful…they’ll go together very nicely.

I think it’s great to purchase things that make this journey easier. Saving a little bit of energy here and a little bit there….really adds up over the course of a day. Your ideas of CFIDS-friendly items would be a big help as well.

      Happy Valentine’s Day, Dominique!

Kerry – Yes, truffle is a rich brown. Actually it is quite a rich beautiful color!

My daughter isn’t doing the CFS friendly thing. My family doesn’t really ‘get’ it, so… I will probably crash big time when I get home. I am a little nervous about flying, however. I don’t do well with balance type stuff anymore or being up in the air so I am just trusting God to give me the strength to do it.

I loved that I was able to be part of the wedding through the internet and a cell phone. How great is that!

Thank you for the encouragement and the kudos.

I hope you had a wonderful Valentines Day with your Hero!

Dominique – Enjoy this very special time with your daughter.
My daughter was married 5 years ago and she made it CFS friendly
for me. Her wedding was in the lovely setting of her Aunt’s
beautiful yard (felt like we were out in the forest) And believe
it or not the Aunt’s house was a 5 minute drive for me. It was
a happy day and happy memory. Wishing the special day to be
just wonderful for you. We have far too many special events.
Enjoy it to the fullest and I hope and pray that we will be
    feeling the best possible.

Patricia – My daughter’s wedding is taking place in Massachusetts and I am sure I will enjoy it. Then I will come home and collapse! But I wouldn’t miss it for the world! Thank you for that wonderful reminder. I am glad you are doing okay. I have been thinking about you this weekend and wondering how you were getting on.

far too few special events! Boy that cognitive thing!

How exciting to be able to be a part of planning your daughter’s wedding. What rich colors! It is amazing what certain foods and drinks do to our bodies….
I am interested in your laptop table…I can’t hold mine on my lap and it sits on a tv tray but it is too high up…WHere did you get one?
I have been using a walker to get around the house the past week or more due to my back being out and needing to lean on something in the kitchen when cooking. Sometimes we just need to do what we need to do! A Pace of Grace is a great book too and the author talks about the neck pillow she takes everywhere and uses for everything….as our heads are the heavest part of our bodies….I am thinking of that too for sitting, typing, etc.
I enjoyed hearing about the wedding~ We enjoyed the 4 we helped plan and participate with when 4 of our kids got married. Such special times.

Renee – I got it at “asseenontvguys”. Here is the url. http://www.asseenontvguys.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=569

When I graduated with my Bachelor from ORU, my massage therapist bought me one of those neck rolls you can put in the microwave and heat up which I love. Plus it is scented with lavender. It is hands down the best gift I have every gotten!

I will look that up and put it on my wish list.

I pulled out “Finding Strength in Weakness” by Lynn Vanderalm. I have read it twice but decided it was time to read it again. I love the fact that she is a Christian with CFIDS. It re-affirms for me that it is my faith that is the foundation for me getting through one more day!

I hope you start feeling better Renee! You have been on my mind and heart all weekend.
