April 2012 ME Story: Laura Lipscombe

I almost missed this month's story.  I had so much going on I didn't realize today is the 12th of the month and a new Becoming VISIBLE 4ME story is up. That would have been a real shame, because this month's story, by Laura Lipscombe, is really impacting. Many of the feelings and situations...

4Walls and AView

Expressive simplicty in Black and White

They say a picture is worth a thousands words.  Today, I don’t feel like conveying my heart with words … well, not written words, anyway.  I have been playing with my creative side today.

You see, I have spent the whole weekend in bed as I ‘hit the wall’ as Joleen so eloquently puts it!  I had a really bad flare-up with the FMS this week but today it started easing and I found myself in an introspective, melancholy mood.

I really just wanted to…

be creative in a different way today.  A way that relaxes me.  So, I started playing with something that is starting to become a passion for me.  Black and white photography.  I need some for my bathroom to put the final touches on it, so I started taking shots and graying  them.  Then I discovered I was hooked.

I thought I would share some of my recent works.  I still need to learn the technique better, but there is something expressive in the simplicity of black and white photos.  I find I am no longer distracted by the many colors and instead can focus on the subject of the photo better.  Anyway, here is my first shot at it!  [Don't forget to click on thumbnail to enlarge!]

Let me know what you think!

I like ‘em :-) You’ve quite an eye for composition. They have a lovely soft quality and I love Heavy Boughs. They’ll look great all mounted up and framed.

It is nice you are venturing into something new, it is so exciting. Although they all look great, I love the image with the wooden bridge.

Have fun on your new adventure!

Kimberly – You are the second one that loves the bridge photo. That is one of my favorite places to go to. Actually, Dekker and I are visiting that bridge today! Thanks.

  • Susie April 27, 2010 at 6:44 am

Very nice! I really like “Wooden Bridge”. So peaceful and relaxing. Hope you are feeling better today.

    • Dominique April 27, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Susie – Thank you. I am feeling better but I miscalculated how much Phenocane and Quercetin I needed and ran out so I am without anything until Monday. Ouch. Not good. But I will just have to take advil or something until I get my order. That makes three for the wooden bridge. :-)

  • Linda April 27, 2010 at 6:53 am

Wow….great pictures, Dominique! I like them all…each one conveying a different feeling and mood.

  • Shelli April 27, 2010 at 11:37 am

My favorites are the Stage, Moody, and Falling Art. Plus, I have a thing for bridges. Very nice. I always like to start my day immersed in beauty.

Shelli – I love the foggy photos. There is something mysterious, melancholy, and magical about fog in photos. LOL! I’m glad I could help you start your day in beauty! That is a great idea, btw! :-)

Lorilynn – I like that one too. No. Actually, Bronte (the female) has been gone almost 2 months now. I chose to keep Dekker and it is working out well.

      Thank you!

  • Renee April 27, 2010 at 3:29 pm

These are really beautiful, Dominique. You have a gift for it that is for sure. I love the wooden bridge, cottage one, and the dog photo…

  • Patricia April 27, 2010 at 3:36 pm

I vote for the bridge (brings back the feeling of simpler times of
the past) and I also love the one of Dekker – what could be better
than him in a black and white photo to show off his good looks.

    • Dominique April 27, 2010 at 6:26 pm

Patricia – LOL! My sister actually told me she loved my hair in the photo I now have in the right hand column but that Dekker is still ugly! Can you believe that! And what does that say about me? I mean owners and their dogs supposedly start looking like each other! Ouch! LOL Too funny!

He is an adorable little guy. He is crashed out right next to me in as I type this in my chair and a half. P. S. I think he takes more than 1/2 the chair! :-)

  • WhitU4ever April 27, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Absolutely gorgeous pictures, Dominique! I started trying to remember my favorites to tell you, but the list got too long for my feeble brain! You have real talent. I also enjoy photography, but I haven’t played with B&W since I took a photography class in NO when we used to live there (in other words, a looong time ago!) I tend to favor bright colors, but these B&W pics have their own kind of beauty.

I’m sorry you’ve been feeling bad – I hope you’re on the mend. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures.

Sue – Thank you so much! I am not surprised that you took a photography class. Is there nothing that you haven’t done or can’t do? LOL I think I shall start calling you the Jill of all trades! ha!

I am on the mend. Actually got in a walk today…a good one.

Ayo – Thank you! Dad’s went home today. The rest of the recovery will take 6-8 weeks as long as no more cancer is found in the lymph nodes the doctor removed. So, things are definitely looking up.

I am doing a little better. Got a walk in today and spent about an hour outside in the beautiful, Tulsa weather.

    In a word… STUNNING!
You are an artist through and through… use that gift to your benefit Dominique! I would be LOST without my creative outlets…. You have the ability to capture a LOT in those photographs… You may even be able to capture your pain and hold it for awhile in your pictures instead of your body!!
HUGS AND LOVE GIRL! I am sorry I’ve missed the last week of your blogging, I have so much going on right now!

I hope things settle down for you!
