"Laura Lipscombe"

April 2012 ME Story: Laura Lipscombe

I almost missed this month's story.  I had so much going on I didn't realize today is the 12th of the month and a new Becoming VISIBLE 4ME story is up. That would have been a real shame, because this month's story, by Laura Lipscombe, is really impacting. Many of the feelings and situations...

Introducing … Smash Leroux

"Smash"

Smash Leroux

The past two weeks I have been having problems with dizziness, balance and sinus stuff.  It didn’t dawn on me until someone told me today that Oklahoma is in early spring bloom this year as we had an extremely mild winter, that that was what was throwing my health off.

I have been thinking I have been doing too much but now I realize my body is using energy on an additional issue and so a little cutting back is necessary until the spring allergy season is gone.

In addition, these past two weeks I have been on the phone quite a bit with my daughter because the doctors discovered my grand-daughter had an enlarged heart and fluid around it.  It has since resolved and we have also found out she has a non-threatening heart-murmur.

However, if that wasn’t enough, we just found out that my grandson will be needing to see a brain surgeon.  The back of his head is not symmetrical and the doctor felt it was necessary to have it checked out.  Other than that he is way beyond his age in his motor skills and whatnot.  He is also weighing in at 16 pounds!  lol  Little chunky monkey!

All the stress has proved to be a bit much, however, and I’m a little tired today as I did not sleep well last night (went to bed too late – a huge no-no for me) so I thought I would share something happy and wonderful with you!

"Smash Resting"

Smash resting ...

I have finally adopted a new pug.  His name is Smash Leroux.  Before you lean back and howl, let me explain how I arrived at his name.  I always name my pets after literary works or artistic works and the authors.  Smash is the new broadway musical television series that I have fallen in love with.  In addition, anyone who has seen or raised a pug knows it is not uncommon for people to comment on a pug’s smashed face.

Leroux is french and means red-haired and Smash is actually an apricot colored pug.  In addition, it is the name of the author of, The Phantom of the Opera, another musical I adore.  Plus, the mask is a critical element in the story line.  Lastly, pugs have masks whether they are fawn, black or apricot colored.

"Smash and Mr. Monkey"

Smash and Mr. Monkey

So you see.  I did put some serious thinking into it.  Smash is not a frivolous name I came up with, or the result of a badly functiong brain day … but one that has much meaning. (insert sarcasm here!)

Anyway, I thought you would like to meet him so I have posted photos throughout this post.

He is an incredible little guy.  Never barks, is very laid back, loves to walk, weighs about 24 pounds, snores (which I love) and is quite the little lover.  He has discovered my shoulder and loves to nestle his cute little head there when I am resting, reading or watching tv/movies.

I had no idea the utter devastation Dekker’s death actually caused in my life until I got Smash.  All of a sudden my life has balance again.  All the enormous holes in my day are filled and the loneliness is gone.

"Smash and Nap Time"

I have this adorable little creature to keep me company, love me unconditionally, and pour my love and compassion into.

Now if it only worked that way in human relationships!  smile

I hope you have an amazing day today!

Determined to continue forward,

What an adorable dog…love the name. Sorry you are feeling a bit punk. Hang in there….I heard that the bugs will be on the increase due to the mild winter too. We were supposed to get snow today and ended up with rain! Lots of it. Strange weather.

Renee – Thank you. He is gorgeous for a pug. Yea, those bad days seem to follow us around, huh Renee? I hope you and Joel are doing better. I heard thatabout the bugs too. I’m adding a immune booster to my herbs this month from Garden of Life just for that reason.

Weird. We has a tornado and a lot of bad weather and rain last night. Today it is 72 degrees and tomorrow 81! Go figure!

      Love and hugs my friend.

I am so so excited for you Dominique – how great! It’s so wonderful to have these companions/friends with us so I know what you mean about it bringing balance. How old is Smash Leroux?

upnorth – Smash is 2 years old. You so right. I find I do more resting, and to be frank – better resting, with him around. I have somoene to cuddle with and take those breaks throughout the day when I need them. The four walls of my apartment are a little more “acceptable” with a little four legged creature with me.

I’m so very happy for you. I like what you said that Smash gives
you someone to pour your love into and to receive unconditional
love from and to ease the loneliness. I am so glad I have Lucy
What puzzles me a bit is how I still intensely miss Sammy. I tell
myself to move on and just enjoy Lucy. It might be unhealthy
the way I’m still missing Sammy so very much. It has been
l l/2 years now. All I can say is he meant the world to me like
no pet ever had before-I’m sure due to being alone and
housebound and never separated even one day in 15 years
from him. I hope Smash is with you for a very long time.
He is a darling little doggie.

Thank you Patricia. I think your missing Sammy is so appropriate. I still miss Dekker a ton too. An you had Sammy twice as long as I had Dekker.

I’m glad that you have Lucy to comfort you now.

How di the g get in front of Patricia?

    • Dominique March 1, 2012 at 6:21 pm

Patricia – it has always been there as long as I can remember. Not sure what to tell you.

    Aww,….welcome little man :)

I dont think we do realise how much those pets are to us until they’ve gone. Three months since my old dear died. Three months since I walked down lane where we used to have a stroll. Went last week alone and felt like a huge hole in my heart. Ended up in tears and had to come home.

So pleased you have a new man in your life. Lots of cuddles and nuzzles in the future xxx

Cusp – I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is sooo hard. (((((hugs))))
