This post is a little different than my normal posts, but I felt this was very important to get out to all my readers and friends.

In essence, this bill would…
[...] over-regulate food and dietary supplements as if they were dangerous drugs instead of enforcing existing, effective food and dietary supplement laws.
This is not where I want the government to go in regards to my access to herbal supplements. For me personally, this would be devastating as I now handle my CFIDS/FMS completely with herbal remedies – the result of too many years of horrible reactions to pharmaceutical medication.
I leave you to make up your own minds as to the ramifications of this bill.
S. 3002, the McCain-Dorgan Senate Bill, Threatens Your
Access to Nutritional SupplementsSenators McCain and Dorgan have outraged millions of Americans in one fell swoop with S. 3002! They have flat-out attacked dietary supplements in their newly introduced “Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010.” Without understanding or respect for the detailed and complex laws and regulations of the people’s treasured Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), McCain has misled the American people. On February 3, 2010, he stood on the Senate floor and said: “The dietary supplement industry is one that is mostly self-regulated”! How could a Senator make such a public statement that is so completely false? Could he be unaware of the hundreds of pages of the DSHEA laws and regulations that manufacturers must follow in order to keep their products on the market and protect Americans’ access to safe dietary supplements? Politics aside, this is a very dangerous precedence because it will lead to each of us not being able to decide what works best for us in dealing with the many symptoms of CFIDS/FMS/ME/.

This is so distrubing isn’t it. I never took meds either until I started the antibiotics…I react so badly to them….I would be interested in hearing what you take for herbal remedies. Does your doctor help you with this? I was taking the herbal remedy Cumanda for killing Lyme and was totally surprised at how quickly I started having die off symptoms (herxing) from it. It made me want to look into the herbal protocol over antibiotics that are causing too many side effects wtih estrogen, etc.
Also, thank you for your beautiful prayer on my blog. Joel read it outloud today for me. It is such a comfort to have others who love the Lord covering me with prayer.

Renee – You know…that would be a great post! I actually have thought about writing a post about the 7 reasons that led me to switch to herbal treatments. I will see if I can pull that together for next week sometime.
I was so hoping you were using herbal treatments for Lyme but I didn’t want to put my 2 cents in on your blog because I have never had Lyme disease. My mom’s dog has, and after 2 treatments, she is well. It was amazing to me!
I am now at the point I no longer want to take antibiotics after an ER visit last year.
I don’t actually have a doctor yet. That is on my to do list as I am trying to find a naturalistic doctor which is hard here in Tulsa. And, I have to pay for it out of my pocket, (VA won’t cover that) so I probably won’t be able to do anything about that until June-ish.
You are really welcome. I don’t normally do that but I was so moved to do it that I just felt it was God urging me to do so. I am so glad you found comfort in it.
I think I am actually doing better…I started Sambacol yesterday and it feels like I might be turning a corner.

HUH?!? This is completely ridiculous!! Why would they do that? I am confused…. Everything is so much more ‘political’ in the States than it is here…
So we are trying to legalize marijuana.. but we at the same time are trying to outlaw herbs?…. Am I missing something?

Jolene – No. This is McCain’s way of trying to deal with steroid abuse in sports – supposedly. I think there may be more to this story but that is his reasoning at this point. I think this is a play from the pharmaceuticals so they can make more money. They (FDA/Phara) control herbs, prices go up, and they stand to make more money. In addition, only the herbal companies the FDA approves will be allowed to sell. That sounds like a monopoly to me.

This is only the beginning. If you research “Codex Alimentarius” you will find that the big pharma companies are aggressively working toward eliminating supplements and effective vitamins all together. They are pushing to make “drugs” the only option available.
There is also an effort to lower the nutritional value of food in order to create greater drug dependency.
It sounds far fetched – but it will happen unless we stop it.

I don’t understand why the Senate needs to tackle this issue at all, especially given the fact that there is legislation already in place. I think they just like to meddle in affairs that they should be staying out of. Do you suppose it makes them feel important?

Larry – McCain states it has to do with steroids. I believe this has to do with the Pharmaceuticals – as do many people/specialist. They are not making money on herbal products but if they could bring them under the FDA, they then could completely regulate them and make a profit, or outlaw them and have everyone on medication which produces many side affects and the need for more medication. In the end, I believe this is about money, control, and power.
Also, if you have been paying attention at all the growth of organics/natural/herbals, there is a growing movement away from chemical ‘tainted’ food, medication, and what not. The America people are moving back to all natural treatments and food because they are beginning to understand that the ‘old’ system of bad food and medication isn’t making them better. Again, the pharmaceuticals stand to lose, and to lose big if that happens.
As of today, organics and all natural products is one of the fastest growing business.
