Running into PERSPECTIVE

As I prepare to write my post for today, I find my mind constantly drifting to the 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti.  A recent commenter on my blog wrote that reading that particular day in my life was like running into perspective.  Well, perspective happens for me as well.  I realize to many people that my life may seem very difficult, if not impossible.  But I have come to understand that while I may have it worse off than some, there are many that have it much worse than I.  Haiti is that perspective that makes me realize how fortunate I really am.

I always try to take inventory of the many blessings I do have so that I don’t focus so much on what this illness has taken from me.  I actually make yearly list of blessings I receive and prayers that have been answered.  I am always amazed at the end of the year, not just at all the answers and blessings I have received, but also that God always goes way beyond what I could ever imagine.

First, my heart breaks for the people of Haiti today.  Watching the videos and seeing the photos at my friend, Larry’s blog,  Political Realities, it was eerily reminiscent of 9-11 for me.  Such pain, shock, devastation, loss, destruction, and palatable fear could be scene in those images.

Second, I pray for God’s peace, protection, provision, and love to reach the people of Haiti in their desperate time of need.

Thirdly, I am once again reminded of how truly lucky and blessed I am.  Even though there may be bad days, I always know that there are new mercies in the morning.  I always know that tomorrow will be a better day.  I pray that tomorrow will be a better day for Haiti as well.

Fourth, I don’t feel it appropriate to write about my day today in the face of this unspeakable tragedy in Haiti.   Therefore, I am just going to ask that my readers would pray for the people of Haiti, and if you have the means, that you would  help in any way you can.

If you are looking for ways to donate, my friend, Matt has several ways you can do that on his blog, WordJourney Magazine.

Update:  Matt has added some new information about World Vision and the Haiti situation.  You can read it here.

See you all here same time, same place, tomorrow.

Well said, Dominique. Problems remain, but others loom. I certainly pray that the response to this disaster will be quick and that God’s hand will be made evident as the days turns into weeks and then to months.

I appreciate the link to Word Journey; I updated my information to include news about three organizations making a difference in Haiti right now.

Thanks Matt. I stand in agreement with your prayer. I tried to figure out how to do a ping back on your blog but couldn’t figure it out. If you can tell me how to do it, I will add a ping back to your Haiti article.

Very well done, Dominique. You nailed it when you said that there seems to always be someone that is worse off than are we. Great article.
